Creating a home

If you are pregnant or are already a parent, the right home for you and your baby is one of the many things you will need to think about. Every individual and family situation is different so it is important to think things through and talk with your family, or those close to you, before you make any decisions. You may be living at home, which at the moment may suit your needs.  If you are thinking about finding your own place, try to take some time to work out what you need and what are the options open to you.

Things to consider

It is important that you have some support close at hand to help if you move from home. If at all possible, try to find somewhere you feel safe, that’s close to family, friends, and local services. Also consider the suitability of the places you view – Is everything in working order? Is it clean and warm? Is the building in good condition?  You might need to view several places before you find the right one for you.

Finding your own place

When looking for suitable accommodation for you and your baby, there are some local resources that can help guide you through the process. In Galway City, The Number 4 Project on St. Augustine Street provides help and support to young people aged 18-25 who are trying to find somewhere to live. A useful online resource for house-hunting is daft.ie.
